There have been a number of cases of feline pancytopenia in the UK recently (including 3 confirmed cases at Hollybank). This is a fatal condition of cats where all types of blood cells are destroyed. There is not a clear understanding of what is causing this condition, but a possible link has been made with certain cat foods. The Food Standards Agency have recalled a number foods including some from Sainsburys, Applaws and Pets at Home.
Covid update – May/June 2021
In conjunction with the governments gradual easing of lockdown and updated guidance from the RCVS, we are pleased to be making the following changes:
Winnington Practice
As from Monday 7th June we are delighted to welcome clients back into the consulting rooms. There will be a limit of one client per consult and we will require clients to wear a facecovering both in the waiting room and consulting rooms. Clients can continue to wait outside or in the waiting room if they prefer.
Hollybank Hospital, Sandiway
Unfortunately due to the layout and confines of the entrance and waiting area in our beautiful converted Victorian house, for now we will continue to ask clients to wait outside whilst we treat your pet. We are undertaking renovation of the existing reception desk to enable clients to safely come into the hospital as soon as possible.
At both practice’s the Hollybank Team will continue to wear full PPE to keep themselves and our clients safe.

A new chapter……
Hollybank turned twelve years old on 2nd March! The time has flown by and we feel we have come a long way since we first opened all those years ago. We have gone from three members of staff to a team of over twenty and as such, have reached a point where we feel it is time for a new addition to the Hollybank family.
We are delighted to announce that Winnington Veterinary Centre will open on 6th April 2021. Rather than a traditional branch practice, Winnington will very much be an extension of Hollybank. Our current vets, nurses and receptionists will all be working over there so you can rest assured you will receive the same customer service and clinical care you are used to. With a fully equipped surgical theatre, dental suite, imaging suite (with x-ray and ultrasound), separate dog and cat wards and two consulting rooms, Winnington will provide a full day service for consultations and both routine and non-routine operations and procedures.
Our inpatient care and out of hours service will continue to run from the hospital at Hollybank and with our ambulance able to transport any patients from Winnington to the hospital you will have complete continuity of care, regardless of which practice you visit.
We are really excited about opening our additional site and look forward to welcoming both new, and established clients through the doors (with appropriate social distancing measures in place!). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.
Winnington Veterinary Centre will be open Monday – Friday, 8.30am -6.30pm from 6th April 2021. We are now taking appointment bookings – please call Hollybank Veterinary Centre on our usual number.
