Congratulations to Sophie, our junior vet, who has just returned from her honeymoon in Lisbon following her marriage a few weeks ago. We wish her and her new husband Conor all the best in their years ahead!
Cool Canines?…or Hot Dogs?
Now summer is most definitely here there are a few things we can do to help our pets cope with the heat and humidity…
Long walks in the heat of the day at this time of year can just be too much. Taking shorter walks and making sure we go in the cooler parts of the day can make a big difference for our dogs.
Our pets might be drinking a lot more at the moment, just like us! So making sure they have plenty of fresh clean water available, especially whilst you are out for the day is really important. What may have been a big enough bowl in the winter might not be at the moment.
Making sure out pets have lots of cool shady places to escape to is vital. Even inside temperatures can soon soar, especially in sunny conservatories.
Popping into the shops or just to a friends? Leaving our dogs in the car at this time of year can soon cause dehydration and heatstroke. Even with open windows our cars quickly heat up.
If your dog or cat is suffering from heatstroke then contact the surgery as soon as possible, as it can be fatal. Signs can include lethargy or collapse, vomiting, excessive panting and salivation.
By doing everything we can to keep our dogs cool and well hydrated we hope to try and avoid these problems over the next few months.
Our recent open evening…
Our open evening on the 3rd of July gave the opportunity for clients to have a look around the practice and meet our staff.
We also had a collection in aid of the Joshua Tree charity which raised a grand total of £108.06. Thank you so much to everyone who donated and took part in the charity’s chocolate tombola.
All in all it was a great evening. It was lovely to see so many of you there!
