Cat Only Clinics
This month we will be introducing cat only clinic hours at our Winnington branch. This is a set selection of appointments in our diary where only cats can attend. Our first sessions are Wednesday 28th June 2pm-4pm and Wednesday 12th July 5pm until 6.30pm.
Why are cat friendly clinics helpful?
We understand that visiting the vets can be stressful for both yourself and your cat with many stressors during the journey; the cat carrier, the car ride, the noise and interactions in the veterinary reception and of course their examination.
By providing times of the day where only cats are present in the waiting room, we reduce the unfamiliar sight, smell and sounds of other animals. Cats are also solitary creatures, they prefer not to see each other and enjoy being high up so we would recommend placing your cat on the chair next to you and making use of our cat carrier covers. For your cat’s consultation, we are very proud to be part of a cat friendly team. Hollybank has been a cat friendly clinic for ten years with accreditation from the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM). You can rest assured therefore that the same ethos and approach is taken at our Winnington clinic during your cat’s examination.
In reducing as many stressors as possible we hope to provide a much quieter and calmer experience for you and your cats. This clinic therefore would also suit particularly fractious or worried patients. .
What can you do to help prior to your visit?
- Calming supplements and pheromone products are available to use prior to your journey.
- Displaying the cat carrier a few days prior to routine appointments can help cats acclimatise to its presence
- If your cat has been particularly fractious or anxious in the past it may be possible to use anti-anxiety medications and we would recommend phoning to discuss these
