The journey
- Make sure you use a good carrier
- See the dedicated section on our website
- Never travel with the cat loose in the car
- Secure the carrier in a footwell or with a seatbelt
- Drive carefully and stay calm as cats can pick up on your emotions
- Avoid loud noises
- Spraying the carrier and car with a synthetic pheromone spray at least 15 minutes before your cat goes in
The waiting room
- When you arrive hold the carrier securely and avoid swinging your cat, take a seat on our cat side of the waiting room
- If you feel your cat is very anxious about being in the waiting room let reception know and we can find a separate room for your cat to wait in or you could leave your cat in the car until we are ready to see them
- We can provide a cover for your cat’s carrier to reduce the likelihood of them coming face-to-face with another pet and allow them some privacy
The consulting room
- We have been accredited as a Gold level Cat Friendly Clinic
- This means that all our staff are aware of the specific needs your cat has, please see the dedicated section on our website
- Our vets and nurses can give your cat time to get used to being in the consulting room, we often let them decide to come out of their carrier themselves whilst we chat to you
- Our nursing team are always on hand to assist the vet during an exam if they require extra help or you feel unable to hold your cat during the consultation
- Always ask the vet or nurse to clarify or explain what is happening if you are unsure
- We can demonstrate to you how to medicate your cat. This can be helpful if you have never needed to give your cat any medication before or have found it difficult in the past
Staying in the hospital
- We have a separate cat ward so that our cats and dogs are housed away from each other in the hospital
- The ward is equipped with a variety of bedding, litter trays, food and water bowls and toys
- We offer your cat a hiding place in their kennel if they would like some time away from us
- Our nurses are always in the hospital to monitor and care for your cat during their stay and if they enjoy a fuss and play we make sure they get lots of contact time with us
