In April 2016 microchipping will become compulsory by law for all dogs in England. This will allow individual identification and traceability back to the owner. At Hollybank we are offering the chance for reduced price microchipping until the end of July, with implantation and registration costing only £10.

We believe that we should do the best for our animals that we possibly can, and that microchipping is part of this. Currently many lost dogs cannot be reunited with their owner as there is no permanent means of identification. Unfortunately collars and tags can be removed or lost far too easily. This can sometimes result in dogs being euthanased because they cannot be reunited with an owner and too many rehoming shelters are full to capacity.

Microchipping is just as important for our cats, especially given that they often roam freely without our knowledge where.

Microchipping can be done quickly and easily. It just involves placing the chip under the skin with a  needle. The microchip number is then registered on a central database. If your dog or cat is found and has a microchip the number can quickly be identified and traced back to you through the database.
